Patents and Open Source

Abstract

This presentation will look at the challenges that patents present to open source -- and the possible implications of open source for patent policy. Will be based on presentation given at Georgetown OS Summit Oct. 18 (summary at http://cip.umd.edu/georgetown3.doc; slides at http://cip.umd.edu/georgetown.ppt) Depending on time slot, will add material on European policy development re open source and patents. Will also draw on implications of recent FTC/DOJ hearings on patents.
