Promoting Inter-Agency Collaboration With Open Source Software

Abstract

Sharing information among government agencies  linguist collaboration application  sharing sensitive information   has long been a goal of government. The war against terrorism has put a renewed emphasis on between law enforcement and intelligence agencies. In this presentation, we will discuss how open source software has been utilized to build collaborative web applications that promote information sharing across agency boundaries, while maintaining security and strict data control. A will be described as a case study. The application is a web-based linguist collaboration tool that is used by federal government agencies associated with law enforcement and intelligence. This application allows agencies to share scarce language translation and interpretation personnel. Utilizing open source software resulted in a powerful and flexible system that was delivered under aggressive budget constraints.
