Carleton, Michael Chief Information Officer The Integrating Role of Finance-Financial Management Enterprise ArchitectureBiographical NotesMichael W. Carleton is the U.S. General Services Administration's Chief Information Officer (CIO). He has served in this role since October 2000 after a brief tenure as Acting CIO for the Public Buildings Service. He is responsible for Information Technology (IT) Capital Planning, Enterprise Architecture, Security, and infrastructure operations for GSA's $500 million per year IT program. He also champions the interagency transformational eGov initiatives being led by GSA. Prior to his work at GSA, Mr. Carleton was the Chief Information Officer for the Office of the Secretary as well as Deputy Director of the Office of Information Resources Management at the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services. He was responsible for information technology investment reviews, millennium readiness, computer security critical infrastructure protection, bureau-level service delivery of applications systems, wide and local area network management, and desktop computer support. He received his M.S. in Information Resources Management, from Syracuse University in 1998. He is also a graduate of the National Defense University Information Resources Management College, the Society for Information Management Regional Learning Forum, and the Federal Executive Institute. His M.P.A. is from Northeastern University, and his B.S. is from Boston University. Mr. Carleton is a past president of the Capital Area Chapter of the Society for Information Management. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Offender Aid and Restoration of Arlington County. He teaches in an executive development program for emerging CIOs and he lives in Arlington, VA, with his wife Julie Bartenstein. |
