Professional activities

Information analysis, XML/SGML DTD design

Among other projects, I participated in content analysis and SGML DTD design for large publisher of educational materials. I also developed a modular XML DTD for the distributed training and technical documentation deployment, update, and maintenance system of a large multinational company.

Training materials

I have been involved in the creation of training materials for several software applications. I participated in courseware development for training for a popular XML authoring application, wrote a comprehensive tutorial for an SGML-to-HTML conversion and stylesheet creation application, and wrote tutorial material for TechnoTeacher's HyBrowse HyTime application.

I have also been involved in creating materials to teach the use of various markup standards. I have co-developed courseware for teaching XML and related W3C specifications, developed materials for an Advanced Document Design Workshop (SGML), and developed graphics, presentations, and sample hyperdocuments used to teach and demonstrate uses of the HyTime standard.

User interface design, software testing and documentation

I helped develop documentation for TechnoTeacher's GroveMinder product, and I participated in the design and testing of the HyBrowse HyTime prototype application.

Standards work

I participated in the Conventions for the Application of HyTime (CApH) activity of the Graphic Communications Association Research Institute (which led eventually to ISO/IEC 13250, the Topic Maps standard ). Previously I had participated in the development and review of ISO/IEC 10744:1992 Hypermedia Time-based Structuring Language (HyTime).

This article, still conceptually correct but now somewhat obsolete with respect to the syntax of the HyTime standard as finally adopted, was reprinted in 1995 in the anthology, A Guided Tour of Multimedia Systems and Applications, IEEE Computer Society Press.
